Wolfenschiessen & Engelbergertal

The largest municipality in Nidwalden in terms of area, Wolfenschiessen and the neighbouring municipalities of Altzellen and Oberrickenbach are quietly located in the beautiful Engelberg Valley between Stans and Engelberg. Numerous mountain railways and chairlifts provide access to the surrounding mountains and transport guests to wonderful places of relaxation.

Historic buildings and chapels

The “Hechhuis” is probably the oldest house in Nidwalden and is located in Wolfenschiessen. The many windows and the special ridge turret are a real eye-catcher. The route continues to Altzellen, where the chapel of St Joder (patron saint of farmers) offers a unique view. You can discover other places of worship such as the Bettelrüti Chapel, the parish church of the Nativity of Mary and many more on the "Engelbergertal Chapel Trail".

Air sports

There are many launch sites for paragliders and hang-gliders in the Wolfenschiessen region. The Engelberg Valley is also beautiful from the air.
