Ennetmoos lies slightly above Stans, between the Stanserhorn and Lake Lucerne. The municipality offers a beautiful natural landscape and hides one or two legendary stories.
Ennetmoos
Dragon fight
The coat of arms of Ennetmoos shows a fire-breathing dragon pierced by a broken spear. It is a reminder of the dragon which, according to legend, lived in a dragon hole in Ennetmoos Drachenried and was killed by Struthan von Winkelried. Guided tours are offered through the legendary Drachenried and the Allweg, which is steeped in history.
French raid on Allweg
In 1798, Ennetmoos was the battlefield of the French army's war against Nidwalden. The battle ended with a French victory at the top of the Rotzberg, in the Allweg district. The Allweg memorial was erected 100 years later in honour of the fighters and can be visited free of charge today. You can find out more about the French invasion here.
Fairytale Kern forest
The Kern forest is mentioned in various stories and legends. On the "Chärwaldräuber" adventure trail, you will learn special facts about the history and legends. The trail comprises 12 stations, including the Gerzensee, Hexenstein and a picnic area.
The Mueterschwandenberg
The sunny Mueterschwandenberg is located just above St. Jakob, Ennetmoos. A walk or bike tour up the Mueterschwandenberg is well worthwhile, because at the top you will find a wonderful view and a modern fireplace. There are also two small campsites on the Mueterschwandenberg.
Rotz Gorge
Caves and tunnel entrances, castle ruins and dense forest - the Rotz gorge offers history and beautiful nature. It was not always accessible and was threatened with closure due to falling rocks. However, it has now been officially reopened and accessible again since July 2017.
