A round walk incorporating Klewenalp

This stroller-friendly three-kilometre round walk is good for families with children, as well as anyone interested in food and alpine flowers. Dozens of little signs point out well-known and rare plants. Holders of GA travelcards travel to Klewenalp free of charge.

Directions

From the Klewenalp upper terminus, you start by following the wide path to the mountain chapel (the cross with the Crucified Christ at the entrance is by the sculptor Hans von Matt) then to the popular Bergrestaurant Alpstubli. The path divides here: we keep to the right and continue along the wide path to Röthen, where the alpine flower trail branches off to the right. The path, still wide, goes around the Klewenstock before returning to the upper terminus.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Three restaurant tips for the outing: it's worth making a little detour to the Hotel Nidwaldnerhof before setting off. The chef recommends the "Rib-eye carpaccio with basil panna cotta" starter. The Bergrestaurant Alpstubli at Klewenalp serves its popular golden-brown-baked mashed potato dish, "Nidwalden Ofetori" , at lunchtimes. After the hike on Klewenalp, we recommend the Berggasthaus KlewenStube 1600, where you can enjoy, for example, pot roast with mashed potatoes. The lakeside terrace of the Restaurant Rössli in Beckenried is the perfect place to end the day. Speciality at the Rössli: "Suirä Mockä".
