"The pearl on Lake Lucerne" - bridgehead, transport hub and tourist destination: Stansstad is not only an idyllically situated village between the Bürgenberg and Lake Lucerne, but also looks back on a long, exciting history as the gateway to Nidwalden. For centuries, the canton could only be reached from Lucerne by boat. Later, Stansstad developed into a bridgehead and transport hub with a rich railway and motorway history. The guided tour of the village also includes the military events during the French invasion in 1798 and looks back on the development of tourism over the past 150 years.

"Guided hike on the Bürgenberg near Stansstad" - Historical memorial trail to the French invasion of 1798: 9 September 1798 has left its mark on the history of Nidwalden to this day. Traditional names such as "Day of Sorrow" or "Day of Terror" recall the military conflict between Nidwalden and French soldiers who occupied the canton on behalf of the Helvetic government. Around 5% of the people of Nidwalden lost their lives in the fighting and the subsequent massacre of the civilian population. In connection with the 600th anniversary of the municipality of Stansstad, a historical remembrance trail was created in 2020, which reappraises the battles on the Bürgenberg at that time and analyses them from various perspectives.
