The Free Republic of Schmiedgasse is one of the oldest parts of the village of Stans. In the old craftsmen's lane, house after house stand close together at the foot of the Stanserhorn, where the "Schmiedgässler" live and work. Even if the sound of the blacksmith's hammer is rarely heard today, the down-to-earth and uncomplicated charm of the alleyway is still conveyed to visitors. Especially at the Schmiedgass events, which take place at regular intervals, there is a strange feeling of togetherness that makes life in Schmiedgasse so enviable.
