How would you like to arrive?
Located at alt. 1850 metres, the lake is a popular destination with day-trippers, especially as it's so close to the Titlis. It can be easily reached from Engelberg by aerial cableway, followed by a chairlift ride to the Jochpass and a 15-minute walk. A visit to the lake is often combined with a longer excursion taking in three similarly sized lakes in the region: you can walk from Engelberg to Lakes Trüb, Tannen and Melch and return to the valley from Melchsee-Frutt. This outing is known as the Four Lakes Trail.
Anglers and hikers will find a heavenly landscape here. Boats can be hired at the reception desk of the Hotel Engstlenalp for a leisurely spot of boating on the tranquil waters.
The water from Lake Engstlen is channelled through a conduit into the neighbouring Gadmen valley and used there in the Fuhren, Hopflauenen and Innertkirchen power stations.
